Splinters: E-zine download + NaNoWriMo

Posted by WritersBlock - October 23rd, 2010

It's been some months since I've made a news post here. July or August or something...

Anyway, I've been working on an assignment for uni for a little while now, a literary zine full of experimental poetry and prose and such. And I've finished it and packaged it as a .pdf file, which is available as a free download on my blog.

If you'd like to download itand read it, that would be awesome, if you'd like to tell me what you thought of it, that'd be even better.

I'd also like to talk about the 'National Novel Writing Month', or NaNoWriMo, as it's commonly called. The website can be found here, and a thread on Newgrounds about it here. Basically, it's a challenge to write a 50,000 word novel over the course of the 30 days in November. If you're a writer, it can be a great source of motivation writing within a community with a shared set of goals. So if you've been meaning to finally write that novel, November's the month to get your first draft thrown together. I'll be participating this year, as I did last year, and I'll be writing a postmodern lit-fic novel called 'Comarama'.

I could probably talk about those two items in much more detail, but I think I'll leave things at that for now. Free e-zine and NaNoWriMo.

Enjoy!

A dedicated writer you are, sir Writersblock (:

It's go0od to have something to show for my work. Most of the time it's just talk about what I'm doing. I haven't been hugely active on here for a while now, I just noticed you're still planning that halloween animation ;P how's that going?

the worst thing is, I still remember loveblimp

Haha, oh dear god, that was a lifetime and a half ago.

Though it's nothing near completion yet, I'm already happy to have made good progress on the intro. At this rate I only get to finish the first scene when it's halloween. So yeah, my workpace sort of sucks, but on the bright side it's looking cooler than part 2.

I'm sure it's looking brilliant. I really look forward to seeing it when it's done, the last few things of yours I remember seeing looked really good. Honestly, I'm super excited you're still keen on the story. :)

I'll likely pass with the NaNoWriMo thing this year. I'm just too casual and too into short stories to handle a novel.

Yeah, it's a huge commitment to write so much on just one thing. I've heard of a few novelists who pump out short stories on a daily basis as a form of simple exercise, but really, the short story is an art form in itself. And then you get authors like Hemingway or Fitzgerald obsessing for weeks over a single sentence.
