Mixing!

It's too loud. I think the blend of instruments could be better, the bend in the piano sounds a bit out of place. Other than that, I could pick out the tunes from the original fairly well.
But the mixing really REALLY lets you down. The brass in the bass doesn't bring out the melody real brass does, and it's too low and gritty, and because of that, it doesn't have the warmth and excitement you hear in a real orchestral song, or in a classical piece done by maestrorage or davidorr. To produce a song like live and learn, and to get it sounding good takes a ton of hard work and dedication, and a bit more experience helps too. I think you're tackling some stuff that's a bit too big for you at the moment, but it's good to see you plug away at it anyway.

Keep up the solid work, knux!
You'll get there in the end.

I don't care to edit this submission. You don't know how hard I tried, it was you who persuaded me to keep going. As you know, I've been trying this song since the BVG started, I give up, if you don't like this one, then sorry man. I tried to make it sound clean, I really did, I tried to get the sounds right, I really did. Its spirit-breaking dude. If you don't think I'm good enough, then I'll back out of the audio part of the collab.

Nice.

It could use some more variation though, it's a little too repetitive/minimal for my tastes as it is. With that being said, with the bass being short and kind of static, I think you should bring the drums out a little more (listening back, it's not too bad) maybe use more electronic sounding drums, they sound too real, and I think that works against this song. Bass is trippy, I like it, is kewl. Overall, it's a great song, I'm just being picky. It's got some nice background sounds. I'll give it a 9/10 and a sympathy 5/5 for your 0 bombers.

Nice work.

Quarl responds:

meow. Thanks for the review. If you say that it's too repetitive, than you'd be entirely correct, though if you truly had a problem with that, then I guess you wouldn't listen to electronica.

I have to...

Learn to play this on the piano.
I love this crazy jazz styled syncopation and vamping bass. The different sections add a good variation.
It's nice to see this old style jazz in a classic game.

It's a great contribtion to the collab.

CrazyCookie responds:

Thanks. I hope the Collab is done soon. :o

Sounds interesting

Sounds like the actual song will be pretty cool.
It's a lot of fun messing about with free synths and sampling sounds. The last couple of songs of mine that I'm working on have some keyboard samples, free VSTs and too much time spent on getting the sounds just right. Good luck with the rest of the song.

Cheers.

Rig responds:

Thanks, man. I'm gonna go for an Animal Collective/Boards of Canada type final sound, with noisy bits and everything.

Yup

Volume needs turning down. But for the most part, it's a good song. One thing I don't like is that you use the crash on the drums way too damn much! It sounds good if you put it here and there, but that was a little overkill. The rest of the drums were sounding good though.

Nice work. Still need to solve that mixing problem though... ...

Yea, thanks for the kind words of advice, I'm totally embarassed. You should have heard the submission I deleted.

Instruments.

The piano at its loudest is a bit fuzzy. The rest isn't bad, BUT, I thought I might quote you here, from the audio ad thread: "A simple piece to chill to."

I think you can bring out that chilled feeling more by doing a couple of small things. Add some very soft strings in the bass, and maybe kick the brass up an octave (it might still sound ok as it is though, I'm just trying to piece it together), tone down the brass a bit, maybe use a brass sample that isn't so punchy, the initial moment when the brass first plays is very loud and short, and a softer brass sound sustains. If you can, try and get the brass to be softer, the same volume at the start, or maybe find a brass that increases in, so that the first beat is a lot quieter, and the brass is a lot more soothing.

I think those should bring this piece to a new level, but it was still pretty good work as it is.

Cheers.

knuxrouge responds:

Thanks, I'll try increasing the octaves, I normally tune them down.

Lol nice title.

Drums are cool, fast and energetic. Melody is catchy. I like how it passes from instrument to instrument. It adds to the driving rhythm. I'd like some more bass though.

Ooh, piano is nice. Great solo there.
It's kinda quirky, but overall, it's a real nice danceable beat. I dig it.
Great work.

Also, would you mind dropping a review on my latest submission?

Cheers.

WB

SolusLunes responds:

Sure, I'll drop by sometime later today and check it out.

I don't know what she's singing...

But it sounds great!
Music is great too. It's all great.
I like the mix of drum n bass and vocals, I'd like to try adding vocals to something of mine someday...
I decided to give you a 10 instead of a 5, sorry to disappoint you...
Well done.
Also, if you don't mind, could you find the time to drop a review on my latest song please?
Cheers.

Rucklo responds:

She sings "latradiluttan" or something like that. It mean nothing. :)

Good job

The instruments sit pretty well, everything is pretty clear. It loops fairly well. For a short term project, this was enjoyable, it was done well.

Good job knux.

knuxrouge responds:

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Your latest inspired me to use the 3x osc, that gives it its docile kick in the background. I give partial credit to you.

I <3 this game

This is a great song and your version of it is excellent. I think it's a little too long at 5 minutes, but you did add a lot of stuff to the song.
Solo at 3:15 = win.

Great job, my man, great job.

PaulyBFromDa303 responds:

Naw, 5 minutes is perfect LOL.

I'm glad you like, bro. Thnx again.

I'm a writer.
