Creative

Great work blending the music and sound effects together. I liked how the music sat back in the mix, like you'd expect in the game. An effective way to tell a little story.

It would have been nice if it were longer, and the music came into the foreground a couple of times throughout the track, but it was great work nonetheless.

I was working on a way longer Counter-Strike remix back in 2002 or 2003... but my computer actually died, I didn't have backups and I never really got back into it...

I have some other stuff coming up though :)

Thanks for the review!

Awesome

Catchy tune! I would have loved some louder percussion, to get a "dancefloor" beat to go along with it would be awesome. The synths are brilliant. You've convinced me to start messing about with sytrus synths, although I haven't made anything quite as good as this. This song is great, more than your average techno song. Great work, keep it up. <3 your stuff.

ErikMcClure responds:

Thanks! I would have made the drums stronger except I didn't want to drown out the synths :P

Nice melody

The piano could use some extra punchiness in the lower part, it sounds real soft. The drums are quite dominating when they first come in, but when the lead comes in it's better. Enough with that stuff, the tune is really sweet, the beginning is great, although, maybe you could add a string section in there to emphasise the sadness. If the soundfonts you got off suspended-3rd-chord are the ones I got from him, then I think you should try the violin 1 legato sound from the squidfont orchestral sound font.

I think, as a WIP, it's got a lot of promise. The drums could be a great part of the finished song. The lead melody is cool, it has a lot of appeal. I think this song will turn out great once you're finished. You've got a great start, and I'd love to see where you go from here.

Keep it up. =D

GronmonSE responds:

If I ever finish it > >;

Yeah, I love violin 1 legato (copy cat x3). I wasn't sure about adding strings to it yet, but I think I might after all. Great soundfonts, eh?

Thanks for the review!

Smooth

Nice soft trance, it's very cool. Yeah, it's a real tease. The synths sound really cool, it should make for a great song, once it's finished. Hope that writer's block doesn't hold you back too much (I had nothing to do with it! lol).
Good stuff.

Sweet

The plucked strings sound amazing, and the atmosphere is great, very consistent. I half want it to lead into a more epic direction, but it's a great tune, and it sounds fitting for its purpose. Great work. I've been listening to more of your songs since you launched the site, and I must say that you've inspired me to get into orchestral compositions.
Keep it up, it's a pleasure to hear your music/collaborations. And I think I owe a "thank you" to LadyArsenic for her part in this song. I must listen to some of her stuff too, I haven't really looked into her music yet...

MaestroRage responds:

Hey WB! I'm glad you like what you hear, of course both me and LadyArsenic would be only too happy to help you out with your own compositions! I can see what you mean when you say you wanted it to go more epic, however as you mentioned, doing so would make the song grow more tiring quickly.

Thank you for the review, we are glad you liked it!

Worth the wait

Now this is brilliant. The melodies and patterns and everything that's going on, it's unusual. The bass is great, heavily fixed around its chord progressions, the higher frequencies are short, and there's not really a clear lead melody, it all seems to be in the song as a whole, with the drums, strings, bass and all those 270 layers that pull this together. The atmosphere is what makes the piece. It's so easy to just fall into the rhythm because of all the things going on in the background. The beat is so kickass. This song is awesome. Well worth the wait.
Gets my 5.
Keep at it, and try not to burn yourself out =D

Waterflame responds:

Thank yo so much! these reviews is what makes it so worth it. you got the exact things i wanted the listener feel. im glad you think its worth the wait, and thanks again for the long review! :D yay!

Lovely

This some great soft classical/ambient music. It's so delicate, and it's full of emotion. The strings are really dry and natural, and I really enjoyed that. The shorter, bolder notes sounded really great. A tight composition, the rising and falling harp was immaculate. The ending sounded too cut short, I'd love to hear a ringing note of the harp to end the piece, and fade to nothing. But apart from that, it's nice and soothing to listen to. One for my favs.
Keep it up!

Suspended-3rd-Chord responds:

hey thanks for another heartwarming review! I really appreciate those compliments, I worked hard on this one, and I'm glad you thought it came out well. as for the ending, I suppose I could tweak the controls to crank out more sustain-thanks for the tip. Thanks for the favoriteing and review WB!

Pretty Cool

It sounds pretty good quality. Drums, synths are good, the mixing and composition is good. Transitions could be a bit better, for instance, dropping the lead out, leaving the strings sounds kind of hollow. Experiment a bit, find a few different ways to mix it up, and this song will be even more awesome.
Great work.

Thanks :) I appreciate your review.

Pitch shifts are good

Well done on that part. The piano part is quite well composed. I find that the drums are too far forward for my taste, so that's my only real issue with this piece. It has a lovely calming abience about it, and the aggression in the drums just make things awkward for me... If you lower them a bit, I think that this song would be simply pleasant. You compose quite well. Keep it up!

GronmonSE responds:

Perhaps I went a little overboard with the drums, who knows. The song felt empty without them though.

Thanks for the review!

Nice composition

I'd love to hear this finished and with a real guitar. The programmed guitar just doesn't fit right with the rest of it. I might also add that I think your snare sounds a little too punchy and too high up in the mix, maybe a bit of reverb and tone that down a bit. The piano is really cool, the delay works great. The melody, for the most part is really good, but there are a couple of parts where it moves a little too unexpectedly, and jumps pitch a little to far too often, and it feel s a little unsettled. But overall, as a WIP, it has a great composition, with a real guitar, and a good final mix, it'll be well worth another listen.

Good job.

GronmonSE responds:

Artificial guitars always suck, unless you spend ours layering and tweeking down, hours that I don't have :P

Thanks for the review!
